AMMAN — The 7th International Congress of the Jordanian Society of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery opened on Wednesday, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange expertise and discuss the latest advances in this domain.

In her opening address, HRH Princess Basma commended the skills of Jordanian doctors operating in this branch of medicine, which deals with diseases of the ear, nose and throat, noting that it has become a main challenge with climate changes and the increasing amounts of dust in the air.

Princess Basma also highlighted the importance of the three-day meeting, commending the participants for coming together and joining efforts to develop this humanitarian mission, amid a state of regional chaos and instability, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

She commended the developing medical services at the local and the regional levels.

Specialised physicians from around the world, in addition to more than 400 Jordanian doctors are participating in the congress, which is organised by the society in cooperation with the Royal Medical Services, the Jordan Medical Association, the Ministry of Health and concerned universities.

The society has been committed to keeping abreast of new discoveries and advances in this field, Shawkat Al Tamimi, president of the congress, said at the opening ceremony, adding that the process of learning and training is an ongoing activity for society members to boost their efficiency and professionalism.

Discussions are set to cover 90 papers on topics such as otology, audiology, rhinology and rhinoplasty, according to Petra.

An exhibition of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and other products will be held alongside the event, and will allow for discussion and information exchange among delegates and leading industrial companies, according to web sources.
