Annual Car Rally

In June 2006, under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma the Drive Against Hunger rally was organized for the first time in Jordan by the National Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition (NAJMAH) in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to raise awareness about fighting hunger and poverty around the world.

Around 120 vintage automobiles drove from Oberstaufen, in Germany through to Austria, Bulgaria, Czech, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, Syria and finally Jordan.

After the rally, in which 250 people participated, the vehicles were sold and the proceeds were channelled to the alliance’s projects which focus on combating hunger in Jordan. The successful initiative has since become an annual event as the rally continues to attract a growing number of participants. The charity funds are used to support NAJMAH, WFP and The Jordan Food Bank.

In addition to the car donations, rally participants have presented other assistance to Jordan including over 100 wheelchairs and 200 hearing aids for children with disabilities; and one hundred saplings which were planted by German participants at one of the Greater Amman Municipality′s parks.

"

We are united by a common aim: to tackle the unacceptable scourge of hunger. By your actions you demonstrate your belief, that in a world of extraordinary wealth creation and accumulation, today it is unacceptable that almost 800 million people still suffer from chronic hunger.
